NASA is Sending Two iPhones Into Space

On July 8th NASA is sending two iPhones into space on the final flight of the shuttle program, STS-135, a 12-day mission to the International Space Station, reports SAI.

Odyssey Space Research has developed an iOS app called Spacelab that will be loaded on these phones. The app will collect data for future flights, to improve the sensor accuracy and precision, and to demonstrate some of the basic capabilities intrinsic to iPhone but uniquely applied to the Low Earth Orbit (LEO) space environment.

Interestingly, the app is available for everyone to download.
