With a record number of iPhone 4S sales, iOS has vaulted past Android in the percentage of mobile ad impressions, according to a report released yesterday.
“Mobile Insights Report: North American Edition” from InMobi, the largest independent mobile ad network, examined more than 93.4 billion ad impressions across the globe in January.
In North America, Apple’s iOS grew from 23.2 percent in October to 35 percent in January to overtake Android, which dropped from 35.9 to 32.7 percent of impressions in the same time period.
The problem-filled Blackberry OS tumbled 8.9 points in October to take third place with 20.5 percent.
Anne Frisbie, vice president and managing director of North America for InMobi said the popularity of the iPhone 4S and iPad have contributed to the iOS lead. Apple sold more than 37 million iPhone 4S units in the last quarter alone.
“The iOS growth we are seeing may be attributed to the tremendous success of iPhone 4S and iPad in the ecosystem. Overall, we are excited to see InMobi’s available impressions exceed 55 billion in North America, and look forward to continuing our rapid growth through 2012.”
Along with good news about total ad impressions, the top three devices on the ad network were Apple’s. The iPhone 4 garnered 9 percent of impressions in North America, trailed by the first-generation iPad with 6.3 percent and the fourth-generation iPod touch with 6.1 percent.
The report also highlights the exponential growth of mobile advertising. The InMobi network in North America grew 82 percent, or 25.2 billion monthly impressions, since just October.
