APPLE'S upgraded iPhone operating system iOS 5 will include a custom Newsstand feature designed to allow consumers to better organise their magazine and newspaper app subscriptions.
Available on both the iPhone and iPad, the new feature will allow newspapers and magazines to automatically download to a user’s device every morning.
Publishers will have to opt in to the Newsstand service, but will then be able to display a "dynamic" icon that mirrors the newspaper front page or magazine cover.
The announcement is an attempt by Apple to solidify its revenues from newspapers and magazines and comes amid growing disquiet amid publishers over the share of revenue being demanded by the technology company.
Apple currently demands 30 per cent of the revenues received from publications sold through its iTunes store.
